Proiect Number 1804BK54 April 11,2013
2.2.1 Well Abandonment Methods and Procedures
Environmental Control Associates, Inc. (ECA) of Aptos, California (C-57 License
#695970) will perform the well abandonment activities. The abandonment activities
will be overseen by E2C field personnel, under the direction of an E2C California
Professional Geologist or Professional Engineer. Abandonment will be conducted as
follows:
■ All wells will be pressure-grouted.
Pressure Grout Method
The pressure grout method consists of the following procedures:
■ Each well will be filled with neat-cement grout by placing a tremie pipe at the
bottom of the well and pumping cement grout down the well;
■ Once filled with grout, each well will be pressurized to 50 pounds per square
inch (psi) with air and the pressure will be maintained for 15 minutes;
■ The protective well head box of each well will then be manually removed and
the upper 3 feet of the borehole will be drilled out using 8-inch or 10-inch
augers;
■ Well DW-41313 is set inside a steel conductor casing. That casing will be cut off
3 feet bgs using a torch, or casing cutter tool;
■ The drill cuttings and wellheads will be removed and stockpiled for disposal at
the local landfill; and
■ The upper 3 feet of the borehole will be backfilled in accordance with City of
Lodi permit specifications.
2.3 Task 3 -Piping Abandonment
Piping connecting vapor extraction and air sparge wells to the former remediation
compounds will be left in place and the ends will be capped with a concrete plug. The
manifold piping at each equipment compound will be cut off at ground surface and
each pipe will be capped with a concrete cap flush with the ground surface.
2.4 Task 4 -Reporting
Following the completion of the field activities a Site Decommissioning Report of
Findings will be prepared by E2C. The report will document all well destruction and
site decommissioning activities. The Report will be prepared by, reviewed by, and
certified by a State of California Professional Geologist or Engineer.
E2C Remediation 3
