k' ■ KLEINFELDER
6 SITE RECONNAISSANCE
A representative from Kleinfelder, Doug Heard, conducted a site reconnaissance on March 26,
1999, to assess and photograph present site conditions. The approximate site boundaries are
shown in Appendix A, Plate 2 "Site Map" and Plate 3 "Site A Map," and color photographs of
the site are presented on Plates 4 and 5. The site conditions discussed below are limited to
readily apparent environmental conditions observed.
6.1 GENERAL INFORMATION
The subject site is used as cattle grazing fields. There are large amounts of vegetation
throughout the area. The vegetation consists of 1'/z foot grass. Located west of Tracy Boulevard
along the southern border is an area used as a storage yard. There is a catch pond noted on the
site for water drainage from the southern portion of the subject site. The pond receives surface
water drainage and animal waste from the corral area. An oil pipeline is present along the
northwest border of the subject site. The surface flow direction of the subject site is in a
northeast direction.
6.2 EQUIPMENT YARD
The equipment yard is approximately 1500 x 150 feet in area located just south of a corral area.
In general the yard is being used for storage of heavy equipment scrap metal, wood, tires,
silage/manure piles, hay, small corral and various storage tanks. Structures include two wells,
trailers and two large pa -mounte water tanks.
6.2.1 Storage Tanks and Miscellaneous Containers
Three above ground storage tanks (ASTs) were noted in the storage yard with approximate-
capacities ranging from 75 to 500-gallons. Two of the tanks contained diesel fuel and one was
empty. One pad-mounted storage tank of approximately 300-gallons containing motor oil was
also noted (see Plate 3 for locations). Each of the ASTs were situated over open soil. No
obvious soil staining was noted around these 4 tanks, although wet soil made staining difficult to
discern. There were approximately six closed 55-gallon drums and three 35-gallon drums
located in the equipment yard. Contents noted from labels were mostly petroleum products
including grease, hydraulic and lubricating oil. Anti-freeze and roof mastic was also noted in
two of the 55-gallon drums. Most of the drums were partially full, one was empty. Several open
and empty 55-gallon drums were also noted in a central location near the trailer area.
