k4 KLEINFELDER
LAURIE T. RACCA
Area Environmental Manager/Client Service Manager
embankment washouts and hillside slope failures, including a massive mudslide that
closed Highway 50 in El Dorado County for 27 days. As part of Kleinfelder's team,
Ms. Racca conducted geologic mapping and assisted with coordination of geophysical
surveys and other field investigation activities.
Kyburz Landfill Water Sampling, Highway 30 Storm Damage Repairs, HDR
Engineering, El Dorado County, California. The closed Kyburz landfill was used as
a disposal site for dirt and logs during the emergency repairs of Highway 50 in early
1997. The additional activity and heavy rainfall during this period increased leachate
seepage from the Kyburz landfill overwhelming a collection system designed to
contain it. Water possibly originating from the landfill flooded the yards of several
residences located downhill. Residents were also concerned that several seeps on
their properties were discharging potentially contaminated water from the landfill.
Ms. Racca researched the history of the landfill, collected and analyzed water samples
from the seeps and small drainages on the residential properties.
Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessments.yor 39 Shopping Centers, Donahue Schriber
Realty Group, Various Locations, California, Nevada, Arizona. Ms. Racca served as
technical team leader for Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and selected soil,
soil vapor, and groundwater sampling conducted at 39 shopping centers in California,
Nevada, and Arizona to evaluate potential environmental issues as part of a property
transaction. Because of the impending sale of the properties. the project was
completed in three weeks.
Country Squire Inn, U.S. National Bank, Auburn, Caliyornia. U.S. National Bank
requested a Phase I ESA of this property after taking possession of the site through
foreclosure. The hotel had been constructed at the location of a former service
- station. Petroleum hydrocarbons were present on the soil on site, however
groundwater had not been impacted. A risk based closure of the former service
station site was obtained from the Regional Water Quality Control Board.
Additionally, asbestos containing materials were present throughout the four
structures on site. Asbestos containing materials in several areas of the complex were
in poor condition. Those materials which were considered an immediate hazard were
removed. An operations and maintenance program was drafted to properly manage
the asbestos that remained in the hotel complex.
Soil and Groundwater Assessment, Sacramento Municipal Utility District, Foothill
Service Center, Sacramento, Caliyornia. Characterized soil and groundwater
contamination encompassing an area approximately 75 feet in diameter, and
extending to 80 feet below grade due to leaking product piping associated with
Racca, Laurie (4/99) 2
