The nitrate concentration of the recharge waters was estimated to be 1 mg/L-N <br /> (Hantzsche and Finnemore). <br /> Quantity and Quality of Domestic Wastewater as <br /> A two-bedroom house is located on the Site. A small, one-bedroom room "guest house" <br /> is adjacent adjacent to the house, though it is unoccupied. For the purpose of the nitrate loading <br /> calculation, three bedrooms will be considered. <br /> Crites and Tchobanoglous (1998) list a typical flow rate of 50 to 70 gallons per person <br /> per day for an individual residence. The San Joaquin County Enviromental Health <br /> Department has indicated that maximum flow and double occupancy within each <br /> bedroom should be considered for the nitrate loading assessment; as a result, a value <br /> of 140 gallons per bedroom per day has been selected (personal communication, <br /> January 6, 2017). A typical residential concentration of 35 mg/L of nitrate as N is <br /> selected (Crites and Tchobanoglous, 1998). <br /> According to Mr. Tacsion, a maximum, f 200 people will attend the facility for services <br /> once per week. The staff of the facili will be Mr. Tacsion and his wife; because they <br /> live on-site already, their contribution is xcluded from the wastewater flow calculation. <br /> In addition to the weekly services, Mr. Tacsion indicated that a youth group of up to 20 <br /> people will meet once per week, and an anniversary event will take place once per year <br /> with an attendance of up to 100 people. The On-Site Wastewater Treatment Systems <br /> Standards indicate 5 gallons per seat is the typical flow for a church with no kitchen; we <br /> understand that the facility will not include a kitchen. Crites and Tchobanoglous indicate <br /> 3 gallons per seat is the typical use for an assembly hall. Five gallons per day per seat <br /> is a commonly used factor for a religious facility and was selected for this project. The <br /> nitrate as nitrogen (N) concentration of the church facility wastewater is estimated to be <br /> 85-mg/L (Crites and Tchobanoglous, 1998). <br /> The estimated flow values discussed here should not be used for the design and sizing <br /> of the septic system. The design and sizing of the septic system should utilize the San <br /> Joaquin County Environmental Health Department's On-Site Wastewater Treatment <br /> Systems Standards which incorporate peak and surge flow factors. The estimates used <br /> in the On-Site Wastewater Treatment Systems Standards may be greater than those <br /> discussed here. <br /> The maximum average daily flow for the Site was estimated to be 578.6 gallons per day <br /> (gpd). Through the use of a weighted average, the average concentration of all the <br /> different effluent flows and concentrations was determined to be 48.7 mg/L-N at 578.6 <br /> gallons per day.
