Soil Suitability/ Nitrate Loading Study
Ernst Property ■ Tracy, CA Irerracon
February 21, 2019 revised April 9, 2019 ■ Terracon Project No. NA197000
1.4.5 Groundwater Sample Handling
Not applicable. Refer to Section 1.4.3.
1.5 Soil Profile and Geologic Information
The site is depicted on the Geologic Map of California 2010, as within generalized quaternary
Pleistocene and Holocene deposits which are comprised primarily of unconsolidated and semi-
consolidated alluvium, lake, playa, and terrace deposits.
Terracon reviewed the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources
Conversation Service (NRCS) Web Soil Surrey and USDA Soil Survey of San Joaquin County
(1992) for information regarding soil properties. Based on information obtained from the USDA
sources, the site consists of Capay clay soils with 0 to 1 percent slopes. Parent material is clayey
alluvium derived from sedimentary rock. Typical soil profiles consist of 0 to 60 inches clay. Capay
clay soils are moderately well drained with high runoff potential, slow permeability, and high shrink
swell potential. For sites with septic systems, permeability can be improved by increasing the size
of the absorption field, backfilling leachfield trenches with sandy material, and installing long
absorption lines.
1 .5.1 Soil Boring Locations
Percolation test boring (131) is located near the northeastern portion of the site approximately 26
feet south of the northern fence line and 65 feet west of the eastern fence line. Soil boring (B2)
was located approximately 10 feet west of boring B1. Refer to Appendix A, Exhibit 2 for the boring
locations.
1.5.2 Soil Boring Dimensions
Soil borings B1 and B2 were advanced with a 4 inch diameter hand auger. Boring B1 was
excavated to a depth of 3.0 feet bgs and boring B2 was excavated until refusal at a depth of
approximately 3.58 feet bgs.
1.5.3 Soil Lithology Observed
The following table presents a log of the soil boring(s). Boring logs are included in Appendix D.
Table 4.
Summary of Soil Lithology.
Boring Depth Interval (feet) Soil Type Unified Soil
Classification
B1 0.0 to 2.5 Lean clay,fine grained, CL
brown
Responsive■ Resourceful ■ Reliable 8
