CONCLUSIONS
Based on the method and assumptions described, the result of the nitrate loading
estimate indicates that the existing development on the Site should not cause a buildup
of nitrates in the aquifer above 10 mg/L. In a worst-case situation, the maximum
buildup of nitrates in the aquifer from the use of an on-site septic system is predicted to
be 3.2 mg/L-N.
The depth of ground water based on recent aquifer levels is estimated to be 139 to 148
feet below ground surface. The ground-water flow is to the north or west at a rate of
approximately 2.5 to 4.5 feet per mile, depending on the season. Maps of historical
high water levels experienced in spring of 1983 and 1999 indicate a depth to water
beneath the Site of approximately 107 to 115 feet.
No wells are present on the Site; no water sample was collected.
Live Oak reviewed maps of water test results for nitrate and DBCP compiled by the San
Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (2019). According to the nitrate
map, ten wells within a half-mile radius of the subject Site have been tested for nitrate; it
was detected in seven wells at concentrations between 0.1 and 5.0 mg/L-N, and was
detected at concentrations between 5.1 and 10.0 mg/L in the other three wells. Ten
wells within a half-mile radius of the Site were tested for DBCP; no DBCP was detected
in any of the wells.
Because of the favorable result of the nitrate loading calculation, no nitrate mitigation is
recommended at this time.
LOGE 1918 Page 9
