Main St.
Stockton, CA., 95202
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS-EHD)
has presented this site to the Technical Review Committee (TRC) for evaluation of the
underground tank investigation. The findings and recommendations are noted below.
Based on past and present groundwater gradient directions, the TRC has
recommended another groundwater monitoring well be installed onsite in the north-
northeast area. In addition, a soil gas survey should be conducted. Areas of particular
concern are just east of the former underground tanks and the area between and
around VM-1 and VM-2.
It was the finding of the TRC that two separate groundwater plumes appear to exist at
this site. One plume appears to radiate easterly from the former dispenser island and
the other plume appears to radiate easterly from just east of the former underground
tanks. It was apparent to the members of the TRC that the rather low petroleum
concentrations previously detected in the soil do not parallel the relatively high levels of
petroleum detected in the groundwater. A soil gas survey should provide a rather cost-
effective method to determine the area(s) that have, and may still be, impacting the
groundwater.
Currently this site has not determined the full lateral extent(s) of the groundwater
plume(s) nor if any receptors are present within a 2000 foot radius. In order to
complete your investigative phase for this site, these aspects should be addressed in a
proposal submitted to PHS-EHD soon.
Once your source(s) have been determined, the receptor survey completed, and your
groundwater plume(s) delineated, PHS-EHD should be able to evaluate this site for a
low risk closure or confirm the need for active remediation.
Please continue to quarterly sample the monitoring wells and analyze for MTBE.
