will be cleaned between each use by washing in a Liqui-Nox solution followed by rinsing first
with tap water and then with distilled water. Excess soil cuttings will be placed in 55-gallon
drums, sealed with a locking ring and cover, labeled, and left on the site. All rinsate generated
by steam cleaning and sampler cleaning operations will be contained, in the same manner.
Upon completion, borings will be backfilled from bottom to surface with a cement grout
containing approximately 5% bentonite.
HYDROPUNCH H GROUNDWATER SAMPLING PROCEDURE
Groundwater samples will be collected by using the HydroPunch II groundwater sampling
tool. The HydroPunch II consists of a 5-foot long hollow steel barrel enclosing a
disposable penetration tip and polyethylene screen attached to the tip. The assembled
HydroPunch II tool is threaded onto a length of steel rods inserted down through the
hollow stem augers and hydraulically pushed into the bottom of the borehole for
approximately 5 feet. The HydroPunch II usually extends from a depth of 1-foot above
the groundwater table to 4 feet into the table. Once the Hydropunch II tip has reached the
desired depth, the barrel is retracted exposing the screen. A bailer is lowered into the
screen and the groundwater sample is retreived. After the appropriate samples have been
collected, the barrel is removed from the borehole. The disposable tip and screen are left
in the borehole and grouted in place or drilled through, if greater depths are desired.
R 1 MBC-11.DOC(nz-1)
