The purpose of the investigation was to <br /> assess subsurface conditions prior to a planned tank <br /> _ closure/replacement. Results of the tank replacement activities <br /> nre described in section 4.0. <br /> 1.1 lkom <br /> The purpose of the subsurface investigation included the <br /> following: <br /> o Characterize the site subsurface and hydrogeologic <br /> conditions. <br /> o Assess the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons in the soils <br /> _ and ground water beneath the site. <br /> C. Evaluate the need for f•.ircher assessment and/or mitigation <br /> of petroleum constituents in soil and ground water beneath - <br /> the site. <br /> -r'he purpose of the tank closure activities included the following <br /> objectives: <br /> - o Quantify the levels of petroleum constituents in the <br /> backfill material within the original tank basin and beneath <br /> the location of the product lines. <br /> o Develop an interim remeciation plan to aderess soils <br /> --- containing petroleum hydrocarbons. <br /> 7 COPE <br /> The subsurface investigation scope of work is summarized bel.cw. <br /> 0 On March 26-29, 1969 a total of fourteen soil borings t.qere <br /> advanced using hollow-stem auger to^hniques to depths <br /> ranging from 21.0 feet to 55.0 feet below grade in the area <br /> -- <br /> of the existing underground fuel-storage-tanks, proposed new <br /> tank location, and adjacent locat_ons. <br /> _ o soil samples were recovered from the soil borings according <br /> to metho.le described in Appendix A. <br />
