C A M B R I A Ms. Lori Duncan
November 18,2005
Chemical Analyses: Selected soil samples from the well borings will be analyzed for TPHg,
BTEX, fuel oxygenates (MTBE, ethyl tertiary butyl ether, DIPE, tertiary amyl methyl ether, and
TBA), 1,2-DCA and ethylene dibromide (EDB) by EPA Method 8260B. Groundwater samples
from wells VEW-3 through VEW-6 will be also analyzed for TPHg, BTEX, fuel oxygenates, 1,2-
DCA, and EDB. Groundwater samples from the existing wells (MW-1 through MW-13 and
VEW-2)will be analyzed per the existing protocol.
Wellhead Survey Activities: Following monitoring well installation, a licensed surveyor will
survey wellhead elevations relative to mean sea level and the wells' latitude and longitude.
© Report Preparation: Following the receipt of analytical results from the laboratory, Cambria will
prepare a written report, which will include field procedures, laboratory results, and boring logs.
Cambria will perform the scope of work described in this work plan under the supervision of a
professional geologist or engineer.
Schedule
Upon receiving work plan approval from SJCEHD, Cambria will schedule the field work and
submit a permit application to SJCEHD.
REMEDIAL ACTION PLAN
DPE System
System Design: The proposed DPE system design includes extraction from existing wells VEW-1
and VEW-2 and proposed wells VEW-3 through VEW-7. A Solleco trailer-mounted electric
catalytic oxidizer (Solleco unit) will be used as the extraction and vapor treatment device.
Specifically, the Solleco unit will be an ECAT (LR) Series Oxidizer. Solleco unit technical
specifications are provided as Attachment C. The Solleco unit is equipped with a liquid-ring
pump driven by a 20-horsepower motor. This pump and motor package can generate a vacuum
up to 26 inches of mercury and an air flow rate up to 300 cubic feet per minute. A throttle valve
will control the applied vacuum and vapor extraction flow rate. The Solleco unit is equipped with
auto-dilution and manual dilution valves for additional vacuum and flow control, as well as to
maintain oxidizer temperatures within the specified range.
Downwell stingers will be set at target elevations at each extraction point. Extracted groundwater
and soil vapors will be conveyed through a suction hose passing through an air-tight well seal.
The suction hoses will extend from the extraction points to the remediation compound where they
will be manifolded into a common header. From the header, the extracted groundwater and soil
7
