(Aegis) is hereby <br /> submitting the results of a preliminary subsurface investigation <br /> and tank closure activities conducted at the Shell retail service <br /> -, station located at 6131 Pacific, Stockton, San Joaquin County, <br /> California (Figure 1) . The purpose of the investigation was to <br /> assess subsurface conditions prior to a planned tank <br /> closure/replacement. Results of the tank replacement activities <br /> are described in section 4.0. <br /> 1.1 PURPOQE <br /> The purpose of the subsurface investigation included the <br /> following: <br /> o Characterize the site subsurface and hydrageologic <br /> conditions. <br /> o Assess the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons in the soils <br /> and ground water beneath the site. <br /> 7. <br /> o Evaluate the need for further assessment and/or mitigation <br /> t of petroleum constituents in soil and ground water beneath <br /> the site. <br /> The purpose of the tank closLtre activities included the following <br /> -- objectives: <br /> } o Quantify the le✓els of petroleum constituents in the <br /> backfill material within the original tank basin and beneath <br /> i the location of the product lines. <br /> I <br /> o Develop an interim remediation plan to address soils <br /> i <br /> -- containing petroleum hydrocarbons. <br /> 1.2 SCOPE <br /> The subsurface investigation scope of work is summarized below. <br /> o On March 26-29, 2989 a total of fourteen soil borings were <br /> advanced using hollow-stem auger techniques to depths <br /> ranging from 21.0. feet to 55.0 feet below grade in the area <br /> of the existing underground fuel-storage-tanks, proposed new <br /> tank location, and adja:;ent locations. <br /> o Soil samples were recovered from the soil borings according <br /> to methods described in Appendix A. <br /> 1.. <br />
