i
I'
I
INTERIM WORK PLAN
Babka Distributing
1149 West Weber Street
Stockton, CA
i
1.0 INTRODUCTION
i
Geological Audit Services, Inc. (GeoAudit) has been retained by Mr. John Urrutia of the
Bank of Stockton to drill two soil borings at the property located at 1149 West Weber Street
in Stockton, California. The location of the site is illustrated in Figure 1. A plan of the site
is illustrated in Figure 2.,
2.0 BACKGROUND
Located in a flat industrial area in the Port of Stockton, the property was the site of Babka
Distributing, a beer distributorship, until 1.989 and was vacant from 1989 to 1992. The
property is currently used by the World Wildlife Museum for storage. One 10,000-gallon
gasoline tank and one 3,000-gallon diesel tank were installed at!,the site in 1972. The tanks
were used to fuel delivery trucks. Both underground storage tanks were removed from the
site by Jim Thorpe Oil Company in April 1991. Diesel and g iasoline contamination were
detected in soil samples collected beneath the tanks. The Bank of Stockton was directed by
San Joaquin County Public Health Services - Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD)
to perform an assessment of the lateral and vertical extent of the contamination.
Falcon Energy Associates, Inc. was retained to excavate the contaminated soil, and
GeoAudit was contracted to supervise the excavation and collect soil samples. Excavation
was performed in January 1992, and covered ail area of approximately 55 feet by 17 feet
and extended to a depth of 14 feet. Groundwater entered the excavation during soil
removal, and stabilized at a depth of approximately 12 feet. Soil samples were collected on
February 3, 1992 from the sidewalls of the excavation, confirming the successful removal of
contaminated soil. However, contamination was detected in a water sample collected from
the excavation. jl
i.
Monitoring wells were installed in May 1992, and groundwate I samples were collected in
June, September, December 1992 and March and September 1993. Concentrations of
dissolved hydrocarbons have declined over this period. No hydrocarbons were detected in
the December 1992, March or September 1993 samplings Contamination was detected in
soil samples collected during the installation of monitoring wells MW-2 and MW-3.
II
&bbw'PG1-941.2E
i
r.. -.. ... ... . it
