The <br /> during but <br /> selected soil samples on-site using a mobile laboratory, <br /> the depth may be limited by groundwater. <br /> 4) Stockpile the contaminated soil on six-mil plastic sheeting. <br /> 5) Spray the excavated soil with water to minimize the release of <br /> volatile organic compounds into the atmosphere. After <br /> excavation, cover the soil with six-mil plastic. <br /> 6) As excavation proceeds, monitor excavated soilionization <br /> r the <br /> presence of volatile organics using a Photo <br /> detector (PID) . <br /> 7) Scrape walls and floor of tank cavity with backhoe bucket and <br /> collect discrete soil samples in Pre-cleaned brass tubes as <br /> directed by a representative of San Joaquin EHD• We estimate <br /> five samples, one from the floor and one from each sidewall. <br /> 1 ' 8) Cap the lead brass tube and seal with aluminum foil and duct <br /> tape. <br /> 9) Label and log soil samples on a chain-of-custody form. <br /> 10) Relinquish the samples to Sequoia Analyf-ical's on-site mobile <br /> laboratory for immediate analysis. If contamination is <br /> • detectedon further excavation may and analysis of aclditionale , followed by <br /> collects samp led, <br /> il) Analyze soil samples for total petroleum hydrocarbons in <br /> accordance with EPA method 8015 for diesel and gasoline, for <br /> purgeable aromatic hydrocarbons (STEX) in accordance with EPA <br /> method 8020, and for organic lead in accordance with the LUFT <br /> method. <br /> 12) Drill three soil borings using truck-mounted, continuous- <br /> flight, 8-inch diameter hollow-.stem augers around the former <br /> location of the storage tanks, as depicted in Figure 2. <br />
