' GROUNDWATER MONITORING REPORT
April 1993
Babka Distributing
' 1149 West Weber Avenue
Stockton, California
' 1. 0 INTRODUCTION
In accordance with a request from the Bank of Stockton, owner of
' the site, personnel from Geological Audit Services, Inc. (GeoAudit)
have performed quarterly groundwater monitoring procedures at 1149
West Weber Avenue in Stockton, California (the site) for the first
quarter 1993 . The project background, procedures, findings and
conclusions are presented in the following sections. The site
location is presented in Figure 1. A plan of the site is presented
in Figure 2 .
2 .0 BACKGROUND
' 2.1 Site Location
' The site is located in a flat industrial area in the Port of
Stockton (Figure 1) . There is a large warehouse, a small metal
storage unit, a large asphalt-paved parking area, and a rail spur
on the property. The property was the site of Babka Distributing,
' a beer distributorship, until 1989 and was vacant from 1989 to
1992 . The property is currently used by the World Wildlife Museum
for storage.
' 2.2 Site History
' One 10, 000 gallon gasoline tank and one 3 , 000 gallon diesel tank
were installed at the site in 1972 . The tanks were used to fuel
delivery trucks. Both underground storage tanks were removed from
the site by Jim Thorpe Oil Company in April 1991. Diesel and
' gasoline contamination were detected in soil samples collected
beneath the tanks. The Bank of Stockton was directed by San
Joaquin County Public Health Services - Environmental Health
' Division (PHS/EHD) to perform an assessment of the lateral and
vertical extent of the contamination.
Falcon Energy Associates, Inc. was retained to excavate the
' contaminated soil, and GeoAudit, was contracted to supervise the
excavation and collect soil samples. A Site Contamination workplan
to excavate the contaminated soil and install groundwater
monitoring wells was submitted in December 1991, and excavation
began in January 1992 . The excavation covered an area of
approximately 55 feet by 17 feet and extended to a depth of 14
' feet. Groundwater entered the excavation during soil removal, and
stabilized at a depth of approximately 12 feet. Soil samples were
1
1
