Mary Mews, Senior RENS k0/ March 22, 1993
Field Notes 1320 W WEBER
Arrived on site 9:15 am. Road north of site blocked off and excavation in that area continues. The berm
appeared to effectivly contain the grossly contaminated water. Additional sidewall samples will be taken of
the west wall; however, excavation north is limited. There needs to be excavation in both the north, north-
east and north-west direction. The skimmer is in the water adjacent south of the berm to contain any
splash over although it looks as if the berm was adequate. Heavy odor observed. Mobile laboratory on
r site. Discussion underway regarding the relocation of a on-site electric poll.
The north-west area there is a sloped incline. Steve Furnas of WHF Environmental walked down and
collected a grab sample of the seep water south of the skimmer which is south of the bermed contained
groundwater. Sample collected at 9:30 a.m.
Approximately 4500 gallons was removed from the excavation on Friday,March 19, 1993.
Northern excavation sample collected at 12 feet. It appears as if the obvious discoloration and odor has
stopped.
20 feet from southern boundary of the soil pile. The row is 40 feet east of the southwest boundary. SP 5
collected 20 feet north of the southern boundary SP 6 40 feet north of SP 5 and SP 7 40 feet north of SP
6.
SP 7 collected, dug down approximately 2 feet and the sample was collected from the soil pile, no odor
observed although there was some discoloration in the area
The next row samples SP 8, SP 9, SP 10, and SP 11 will be collected 80 feet from the southwest corner.
Samples will be collected at 40 feet intervals. Time 11:44.
SP 10 collected the northern end of the third row at approximately IIA&
SP 9, SP 10, no order observed. SP 11, SP 12, SP 13, row (7) collected 120 feet from the southwest corner
and at 40 foot intervals.
X 19 was sample collected from the northern boundary of the excavation. Larry Titsworth, the plant
manager, took a picture (see file).
Same crew is working for Warren Gomes Excavating going to collect the likely the final sidewall sample
south of the bermed area. Sample will be collected at 12 feet.
X 20 collected at 20 feet. No obvious odor observed in the bucket. X 20 collected at 10:00 o'clock.
1:15 1320 West Weber Warren Gomes Excavating Company has vacuum truck out here and is pumping
the northern area of the excavation. They are backfilling the southern area of the excavation at this time.
In approximately 1.5 hours additional excavation in soil sampling will occur.
3:20 collecting a sample from the seep water. Approximately 4500 gallons was removed from the northern
end of the excavation and sample to be collected at approximately 3:25 of the water.
Sample designated X 21 collected at 114 feet approximately 3 feet south of the fence line. The water
sample was designated W 2-
X 22 collected at 3:50. No odor observed in bucket. Very sandy soil. The sample was collected from the
eastern sidewall of the northern part of the excavation. Obvious odor and discoloration immediately
north and west of the sample collection.
Sample collected at 12 feet. X 23 collected at 4:20 at 12 h feet was the western wall.
