(Golder) is pleased to submit this workplan for the decommissioning
of monitoring well MW-413 at 1320 West Weber Street,Stockton,California (Figure 1). The
well decommissioning is being conducted as part of the activities associated with obtaining
final closure of the site.
Monitoring well MW-4D was installed in March 1990 by Henkle and Associates ,a
subcontractor of WHF Environmental Consultants,Inc. (WHF), as part of a remedial
investigation for a petroleum hydrocarbon release from underground storage tanks at Union
Ice Company's,ice manufacturing and cold frozen storage warehouse facility.Well
construction details are included in the attached boring log. The well was constructed using
a 4-inch diameter Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) casing to a total depth of 60 feet and a 12-inch
diameter steel conductor casing to a total depth of 38 feet. The well was screened between 50
and 60 feet. The 12-inch diameter steel conductor casing was grouted to the surface and the
4-inch diameter PVC casing was sealed inside the 12-inch casing from 38 feet to ground
surface.
The monitoring well will be decommissioned following the guidelines set forth in Section 6,
of the Well Standards established by San Joaquin County,Public Health Services,
Environmental Health Division. The decommissioning will be performed by a C-57 licensed
well driller under the supervision of a State of California Registered Geologist or Engineer.
Prior to decommissioning, the well will be cleared of debris to the total depth of 60 feet. The
well will be then pressure grouted to the surface. The grout will be mechanically mixed and
will consist of 5-10 gallons of water per sack of Portland cement. A tremmie pipe will be
used to place the grout from the bottom of the well to the surface. The area within a 2-foot
diameter around the outside of the conductor casing will be excavated to a maximum depth
of 3 feet below the ground surface. The conductor and PVC well casing will be cut off six-
OFFICES IN AUSTRALIA,CANADA,GERMANY,HUNGARY,ITALY,SWEDEN,UNITED KINGDOM,UNITED STATES
