Union Ice - 3 - I 30 July 1991
I
a depth of about 15 feet but no samples were collected at that depth.
k However, the boring logs for both MW-4S andIMW-4D indicated soil
r saturated with gasoline at about 16 feet. The northern extension of the
excavation runs along the west side of the wells but not on the eastern '
side. Soil/ground water contamination may remain below 15 feet and to
the east of MW-4S and MW-4D yet no borings were proposed for the area.
i
My recommendations are as follows: 1
1. Require that Union Ice submit the missing reportsj and information to the
Regional Board;
Ij
2. Request further explanation of the problems land questions noted above;
3• Require monthly ground water el
evation measurements, quarterly ground
water sampling and analysis, and quarterly submittal of monitoring
reports; and I
4. Approve borings as proposed
but -request equest addtzonal M
borings east of MW-4S
and MW-4D.
Once additional information is available it it
may be more apparent if a
recommendation for abandonment of MW-4S and MW-4D should be made. If you have
any questions, please call me at (916) 361-5726.
I
; I
ELIZAB TH A.
