-s
Union Ice Company - Weber Street
Phase II- Report of Findings
Page 3
that time.
8. Recent sampling of the upper aquifer wells at this site show "ND's" for
TPH and BTE&X. Removal of most of the contaminated soil may be
directly related to this phenomenon.
9. Well 4D, the lower aquifer well, sampled positive for minor levels (all
below MCL's) of Toluene, Ethyl Benzene and Xylene in March, 1991. This
well sampled "ND" for all constituents in April, 1991. Apparently there has
been minor contamination of`he lower aquifer, at this site.
RECOMMENDATIONS
1. The remaining soils contamination near the southeast corner of the remedial
excavation should be characterized by four(4)exploratory borings (see Plate
7).
2. Once characterized, a soils remediation plan will be submitted, if conditions
warrant doinn such.
3. Since contaminant levels in the ground water, at this site, appears to have
markedly improved since August of 1990, we recommend no further ground
water remediation efforts be undertaken for the time being. Instead, the
ground water contaminate levels and the elevation of the ground water
should be monitored on a quarterly basis for a one(1) year period.
4. If all ground water samples analyze either "ND" or below MCL's for
BTE&X during the one (1) year period, then this site should be evaluated
for closure by San Joaquin County Regulatory officials.
The above represents our best professional opinion with respect to ground water flow
and contamination conditions, at this site. These opinions were derived using the
existing data at hand, and with reasonable standards of care common to the
hydrogeologic consulting community in Northern California 1990-1991.
It should be understood that the above opinions were derived from observations of ggeo-
_ _..... _ _.....logic._conditions.-in...-soils_and water samples taken from bonngs and monitor wells.
These conditions were protected into unobserved ares of the site: The opmtons,
therefore, involve thoughtful interpretation of the data.
