' UNIONICE CE COP✓1PANY
1320 Weber Street, .Stockton, California
Phase III Site Assessment - Report of Findings
' Phase IV Additional Remedial Proposal
1 0 PROJECT HISTORY
In a report submitted to San Joaquin County in rune of 1990, the general outline of
' contamination resulting from a LUST release on the property was delineated
During the month of February, 1991, approximately 2,000 cubic yards of contaminated
' soils were excavated The limits of the excavation were guided by exploratory trench-
tng and sidewall sampling Because definition of the limits of the contaminated soils
was complicated by soil discoloration, due to the presence of peat which was found in
native soil and wood debns it old backfill material, a large number of srdewall samples
had to be taken to define the contamination limits
2.0 SCOPE & SUMMARY OF PRESENT WORK
The present phase of work was designed primarily to explore the extent of the contam-
ination plume which extended to the southeast of the previous excavations This area of
the plume was not removed because of the presence of a sewer line, which runs north
to south in the area In addition, the present phase of work was intended to test the
E effectiveness of the excavations in removing the contamination in other areas of the
plume
The work was earned out between March 25 and 28, 1992 A total of eight (8) soil
borings were drilled to a depth just above the groundwater level by Osterberg &
Stewart, licensed dnlling contractors, of Modesto, lCaliforriia The borings were dulled
using a 7 25 inch diameter hollow stem continuous flight auger and the soil was cored
continuously, using a wireline coring device Samples were collected in 2 Vz inch
diameter brass sleeves and the soil was Sampled at 2 5 foot intervals Detailed sampling
protocol description is outlinea in Appendix C A detailed stratigraphic log, listing
sediment type and description, was kept for each bonng
