Union Ice Company
Quarterly Sampling Report, January, 1992
Page 3
west of the paved area This water was tested as "ND" and results were included in
a previous report
Well water purged during sampling events have been kept in a 350 gallon water
{ trailer until results of water well tests are known Histoncally, the results of the
1 wells have been all "ND" except wells 4S and 4D, and those wells have always
been very low levels of BTX or E Since the purged water from all wells is kept in
a single container, an unavoidable dilution occurs The dilution is calculated each
time wells are purged and the results have always been below detection levels of the
test methods The water is then disposed of on the land, west of the paved area, on
site The dilution activity is not an intentional attempt to dilute the water for
disposal, the water trailer is an integral part of McCain Environmental sampling
activities that makes sampling faster and more efficient, as well as less expensive
for the client Drums are very expensive compared to this method
r 9 In addition to the map provided, showing where soils were treated, a request for a
I narrative describing treatment was asked for The following is a narrative of the soil
treatment activities
Nairative 4n Soils Remediation Peformed at .1320 W. Weber, _Including Soils
Imported From 425 N Union Street, Stockton
Union Ice Company, at one time, had two (2) sites in Stockton, one at 425 N
Union Street, and one at 1320 W Weber Avenue The 425 Union Street site is a
small site that manufactured ice, and no space was available for soils treatment The
Weber Avenue site has several acres of available land for soils treatment Soils
excavated from the Union Street site were trucked to the Weber Avenue site and
stockpiled on the asphalt area, shown on the map as "stockpile area" The soils
from the Union Street site were treated in two (2) separate stages Stage one was
aeration, to treat the volatile components in the soil This was done under permit
from the Air Pollution Control District in San Joaquin County
This permit was obtained and the soils aerated by McCain Environmental Services
The total volume of soils brought on site from Union Street was 550 yards, total
hydrocarbon contamination was 597 ppm by weight The air permit stipulated no
more than 54 yards per day could be aerated This meant 10 days or more were
required to aerate the soils Aeration took place over a 60 day period
The second phase of remediation involved bio-remediation of the heavier
hydrocarbon fractions, in this case, we believe weathered diesel or kerosene
McCain moved the aerated soils from the asphalted area to the dirt area on site,
