Union Ice Company
P ,Y
Quaneily Sampling Report, January, 1992
Page 4
west of the asphalt (see map, bio-remediation site, Union Street) The soils were
I inoculated with bacteria, kept moist and periodically mixed, using a tractor Again,
this work was performed by McCain Environmental Services
The treatment goal was 100 ppm or lower, which was more than achieved Soil
samples taken at the completion of the project were "none detected" for all consti-
tuents
10 Pump testing of the aquifer occurred on March 2, 1991 Well #8 was pumped for a
12 hour period at 4 16 gpm, total water removed form the aquifer was 3,000
gallons All of the data from the pump tests has been reported in previous reports
We have produced an additional graph for this report, at the County's request,
showing the draw down effect on the surrounding wells (Appendix E)
Confusion regarding ground water contamination persists Because no significant
contamination has been found in any of the wells, we believe two things first, Sig
nificant ground water contamination never occurred, second, we believe that the
pumping of the 3,000 gallons of water during the pump test probably removed the
contaminated water We feel this is a reasonable explanation based upon the
analytical results observed over the last three (3) years
Subsequent to this project, soils were re-excavated from the 1320 Weber Avenin site
Approximately 800 yards of contaminated soil was excavated from the former fuel tank
area Contamination was gasoline, where the average concentration was 69 pprn by
weight Again, a permit was obtained from the APCD, the permit stipulated that no
more than 486 cubic yards per day could be aerated The aeration took approximately
60 days to complete Aeration was again performed by McCain Environmental The
area where aeration was performed is shown on the Soil Remediation Activities map
(Weber Avenue Aeration) Following aeration, samples were taken with results
showing "ND" Some mixing of the Union Street and Weber Avenue soils occurred
after aeration activity Since all soils were tested as "ND", this was not considered to
be a problem Results of these activities have been reported in previously submitted
reports
•'
