} this day. The church has services every third Sunday. In`regard to the liquor license: the
VFW has already been to the Department of Alcoholic Beverage 'Control to pick up ar
application for a liquor license. As to the future use of the building; one only has to drive
by the present location of the VFW on Highway 120 and French Camp Road to see that
cars are parked there almost every night, and I might add, past 6:90 pm. As to the serving
of alcoholic beverages to outsiders, I.am prepared to tnng`"witnesses to testify, that they
have purchased alcoholic;:beverages at Posh 1051., For those who know about the, social
activities of this group, drnking'remains almost th'e main reason for their=getting together.
If people want to drink,,that is their own business., However; I DO NOT WANT A BAR
NEXT TO MY HOUSE, WITH THE ATTENDANT PROBLEMS THAT GO ON WITH
PUBLIC DRINKING. The late, night, noise, the-attendance of outsiders who might cause
problems, and the general tone of a drinking environment 'do not belong in an agricultural
area. I might add that my first husband,Pier spy ksma was a veteran and I am eternally
grateful for the contributions of veterans: This has nothing to do with my respect for
veterans. Oh, by the way, Mr. Sneed mentioned that the VFW has as one of its major
activities to offer their services at funerals of veterans (21 gun salute, etc.) WHY WFA
THEY NOT AT MY FORMER HUSBAND'S FUNERAL?
We chose to live in this house because we wanted to pursue a peaceful country lifestyle. We
have investedheavily both emotionally and financially in making our property a peaceful.
beautiful haven for our family. We want to be able to go to bed at night and not have our
sleep disrupted. We do not want the stress of,having to complain 'about noise, etc. during
hours in which our family expects peace and quiet. We do not want traffic going in and out
right next to our driveway. We do not want our family activities in our back 3 and
disrupted by noise and dust. We do not want the dust from cars going in and out to invade
our house or pool. We do not have the energy or the desire to relocate at this stage of our
lives. We deplore the possibility that our property will be devalued—this property which
means so much to us. I ask you: How can people in places of authority jeopardize the
peace of our family and the value of our property by arbitrarily changing an ordinance
without even asking for our input? Is this what we get after four decades of paying taxes
and being good neighbors and citizens?
I am so distraught by this situation and the unfairness of it that I have referred-this
situation to the San Joaquin County Grand Jury for investigation. They have indicated in
letters I received dated December 5 and December 20 that they will assist me in addressing
my concerns. I plan to keep them apprised of all future developments.
I plead with you to deny this application,
Sincerely,
Janet Spyksma-Pilchard
N
