SECTION 2 <br /> BACKGROUND INFORMATION <br /> 1 ' <br /> This section discusses the general setting and history of the property, <br /> and provides information on the local geography, geology, and <br /> hydrology <br /> Site History and Setting <br />' Historical information regarding the parcel is limited The earliest <br /> record, circa 1917, indicates that the area was a rail yard owned by the <br />' Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad By 1963, the rail yard had <br /> been replaced by three warehouses (for additional information, see the <br /> Preliminary Site Assessment Report for Stockton Warehouses, Dames <br /> & Moore, January 1990) Currently, the warehouses are collectively <br /> under the ownership of Catellus Development Corporation, formally <br /> Santa Fe Pacific Realty Company Two warehouses are currently under <br /> lease to two separate business enterprises, the third warehouse is <br /> vacant <br />' <br /> Geography <br /> The site property is situated within the port area of the City of Stockton, <br /> San Joaquin County, California (Figure 1-1) The Stockton Deep Water <br />' Channel bounds the property immediately to the north Elevations <br /> range from a few feet above sea level along the Stockton Channel <br /> waterfront to approximately 10 feet above mean sea level (MSL) along <br /> West Weber Avenue <br />' Geologic Setting <br />' The property lies within the Great Valley geomorphic province of <br /> California The Valley is an asymmetric synchlinorium containing up <br /> to 60,000 feet of sediment along the western margin The sediments <br /> consist of marine and nonmarine late Triassic to early Tertiary clastic <br /> material Late Tertiary to Present Age sediments are exclusively of <br /> non-marine clastic deposition in a variety of alluvial-fluvial <br /> 2-1 <br />
