RECEIVED
Regional Water Quality Control Board
Central Valley Region DEC 2 1 Igo
3443 Routier Road, Suite A NVIRONMINTAL b hTH
Sacramento, California 95827-3098 PIRMIT/love 6
Subject: Transmittal of Investigation Report on the Suspected Brine Release of the Union
Ice Company Facility, 1320 West Weber Avenue, Stockton, California
Dear Ms. Cohen:
On behalf of Union Ice Company, Levine-Fricke, Inc. submits the enclosed report on our
recent environmental investigation at the subject site. Under the direction of John M.
Farr, Ph.D., Levine-Fricke collected ground-water samples from five existing wells at
the site on July 26, 1993. The results of laboratory analyses showed that there was no
detectable dissolved chromium (above the reporting limit of 10 ug/L) in the ground-water
samples. This new ground-water quality data indicates that chromium contained in Union
Ice Company's old brine solution has not adversely affected ground water at the Site.
Union Ice Company is planning to have the five relevant monitoring wells re-sampled in
early 1994, following the rainy season, to confirm the findings of Levineā¢Fricke's recent
investigation. If this follow-up investigation confirms our recent findings, we feel that
this suspected brine release matter should be closed.
Please feel free to call me at (916) 786-0320, or John Farr (who is now employed by ICF
Kaiser Engineers (916) 852-3708), to discuss this project. Although Union Ice Company
plans to keep you informed of Site activities, it is our understanding that this investigation
will continue in a self-directed mode.
Sincer y,
Br d1le Cross, R.G.
S nior ydrogeologist
Enclosure
cc: see distribution list
3001 Douglas Boulevard,Suite 320
Roseville,California 95661
(916)786-0320
Fax(916)786-0366
Other offices In Emeryville,CA;Irvine,CA;Tollohossee,FL Honolulu.HI
