WE
n -
PROBLEM ASSESSMENT REPORT
Moore Petroleum, Inc.
5941 F Street, Banta, LA
- NGA Project No. 10-90-481
Page 12
Two scenarios were modeled using DREAM. Scenario 1 consists of
pumping MW-1 at a rate of 4 gallons per minute (gpm) . Scenario 2
consists of pumping MW-1 at the same rate but injecting treated
ground water via a new monitoring well (NW-7) located outside the
.interpreted extent of dissolved hydrocarbons in ground water.
Scenario 2 assumes that dissolved hydrocarbons will not be detected
at MW-7 and that its location will be .suitable for injection of
treated ground water. Input parameters to DREAM utilized for
modeling both scenarios are given in Table 6.
TABLE 6
DREAM Input Parameters
Scenario 1 Scenario 2
Pumping well MW-1 MW-1
Injection well None MW-7.
-
Pumping Rate 4 gpm 4 gpm
A^ Injection Rate None 4 gpm
` nq, ifer Transmissivity 520 gallons/day/foot 520 gpti/foot
- Natural Ground-Water .004 foot/foot .004 foot/foot
Gradient
Aquifer Thickness
-.L feet 20 feet s
Aquifer Porosity 0.25 0.25
Examination of the tables of drawdowns generated by DREAM for both
- ld be maintained
scenarios indicate that a pumping rate of 4 gpm cou
at MW-1. Figure 8 shows ground water .flowlines generated by DREAM
for scenario 1. Examination of Figure 8 indicates that this
scenario would easily capture the interpreted extent of dissolved
hydrocarbons and prevent further ,migration of the dissolved plume. i
Figure 9 is a contour map of ground-water travel times produced by
pumping under Scenario 1, Figure 9 shows that while a significant
7.
portion of thedissolved plume Mould reach VW-1 in less than 100
days, the most down-gradient portion of the plume (east of MW-3)
would require about 850 days to reach MW-1. -
x, Because of adsorption and desorpti6A of hydrocarbon constituents
-------- -- by---aquifer---materials--_-(part.icu.larly --fine-grain ed sediments and
-' organic material) it is likely that petroleum constituents w ll- --- -
—----
migrate somewhat .slower than ground water.
