3 Analytical Quallly A surancc
in addition to routine calibration of the anal,,tical instruments with standards and blanks, the annlyst
is required to run duplicatcs and spikes on 10 percent of the analyses to insure an added measure of
precision and accuracy. Accuracy is also verified through the following:
1) U.S.Environmental Protection Agency(EPA)and State certification programs.
A, 2) Participation in an inter-laboratory or"round-robin" quality assurance program.
3) Verification of results with an alternative method. For example, calcium may be determined
{ by atomic absorption, ion chromatography,or titrimetric methods. Volatile organics may be
r>
determined through either purge and trap or liquid-liquid extraction methods.
is
4) Inclusion of a trip blank,(consisting of de-ionized or distilled water in a sample bottle that is
} prepared in a manner identical to the preparation of all other sample bottles for that analytical
I technique) in each shipment of sample bottles to a sampling location.
! 3.4 F€elduallt Assurance
t.t
To insure that proper sampling procedures are followed in the field, one field blank will be collected
i for every ten ground water samples collected in the field. Procedures for collection of the field blank
will be identical to these for collection of the ground water samples, with the exception that de-
ionized(or distilled)water will be poured into a laboratory cleaned, teflon bailer and then discharged
from the bailer to the appropriate sample bottle(s).
3.5 Miscellaneous Checks of Accurn
Where trace analysis is involved, purity of the solvents, reagents, and gases employed is of great
;. concern. The laboratory maintains a service contract on all major instrumentation: gas
chromatographs, atomic absorption, ion chromatography, and total organic carbon analyzers are all
serviced and maintained regularly.
The above program is more than sufficient for most needs. Additional quality assurance, such as
' spikes and duplicates on all analyses, will be provided if requested.
4.0 SITE SAFIr'Ty PLAN
This plan addresses safety provisions to be employed during the site investigative field work in the
vicinity of 5491"F'Street,Banta,California.
