v
First Quarter 1996 Groundwater Monitoring&Remediation Status Report
Moore Petroleum,Inc.,5491'T'Street,Banta,CA
April 2, 1996
Page 3
REMEDIATION STATUS
On May 5, 1995, a soil vapor extraction system consisting of an R S.I. SAVE system was
installed at the subject site. The vapor extraction system was installed per San Joaquin Valley
Unified Air Pollution Control District(SJVUAPCD)Permit conditions. The vapor extraction
system consists of an internal combustion engine with catalytic converters mounted on the
exhaust. The system was set up such that soil vapors could be extracted from either vapor well
VW-1 and/or monitoring well MW-1. The vapor extraction system was initially and is currently
configured to extract soil vapors from VW-1. The system was started on May 5, 1995, and has
operated through October 4, 1995, at which time it was temporarily removed from site. On
November 27, 1995,the system was returned to the subject site and restarted. During this
reporting period,November 1995 through February 1996, soil vapor flow to the system has
averaged at 8 cubic feet per minute(CFM).
An air sparge system was installed for use in conjunction with the vapor extraction system. The
air sparge system consists of a one horse power electric motor which powers a 10-CFM oil-less
compressor. The air sparge system was started on May 31, 1995 and operated intermittently
through August 30, 1995 at which time its operation began to coincide with the operation of the
R S.I. system. The air sparge system has been configured to operate at 10 pounds of air per
square inch(psi).
Influent and effluent vapor samples have been collected on a monthly basis to demonstrate
compliance with the SJVUAPCD Permit conditions. The samples were collected according to the
Apex SOP included in Attachment 1 and submitted, under chain-of-custody, to Sparger
Technology, Inc. of Sacramento, California, a state-certified laboratory. The samples were
analyzed for concentrations of TPI, as gasoline, and BTEX. Analytical reports and chain-of-
custody forms are included in Attachment 2.
During this reporting period, vapor samples were collected for laboratory analysis on December
5, 1995, January 9, 1996, February 14, 1996 and on March 6, 1996. Based the vapor sample
analytical results for March 6, 1996, the system extraction rate was 4.5 pounds per day(lb./day)
as TPI, as gasoline, and 0.12 lb./day of benzene. As of March 6, 1996,the vapor extraction
system has extracted 1,520 pounds of TPI, as gasoline, and 13.4 pounds of benzene. System
operating data is contained in Table 3. Extraction rates and analytical results to date are
contained in Table 4. Vapor extraction system sample calculations are contained in Attachment 3.
Vapor samples were not collected for the month of November 1995 due to the temporary removal
of the R S.1. unit from the site.
