vv1 vA =—I iV.'SV i'eiS v �" <br /> KLFINFELCFR <br /> B-2.6 Collection of BAT Probe Groundwater Swuples <br /> One-time groundwater samles are collected using a BAT Probe,which is an insitu groundwater <br /> sampling device. The borings are first advanced to a point immediately above the desired <br /> sampling depth where groundwater is enc entered. A stai.nIms steel drive tip equipped with a <br /> stainless steel filter is lowearod into the boring at the end of a 2.5-inch diameter galvanized steel <br /> Pipe and pushed ruing the drill rig approximately 6 to 12 inches into the soil/aquifer formation at <br /> the bottora of the boring. A sterilized,glass,vacuum sealed sa(((pling ampoule (tube), similar to <br /> a standard volatile organics (VOA) vial, is then lowered through the pipe down to the tip with a <br /> cable. Between the tip and the sample tube is a double-sided hypodermic needle(syringe),which <br /> simultaneously punctures the seals on the stainless steel drive tip and. the Septum of the glass <br /> sample ampoule. The vacuum in the sample ampoule draws groundwater through the tip into the <br /> glass ampoule. The glass ampoule is their hulled cwt of the pipe, disengaging the syringe. The <br /> sepluin in the glass ampoule and drive tip reseals after the syringe is remover/. <br /> To reduce the potential for introducing contaminants into the samples, the drive tip, galvanized <br /> pipe, and other equipment used for sample collection are steam cleaned and/or washed with <br /> trisodium phosphate or non phosphate detergent solution and double rinsed with distilled water <br /> prior to use. The sample probe and filters are cleaned in TSP solution and rinsed with methyl <br /> alcohol.followed by a distilled water Anse prior to use. New, factory-sterilized syringe needles, <br /> 0-rings, septum's and sample tubes are used for each sample, <br /> B-2-7 Sample Handling <br /> After labeling, the sample is immediately stored in an iced cooler for transport to Kleinfelder's <br /> office sample control or to the analytical h hmatory. A Kleinfelder chain-of-custody form <br /> accompanies the cooler. The chain-of-custody form includes Kleinfeldees name, address and <br /> telephone number, the =Vloyee number of the individual who performed the sampling* the <br /> sample numbers, the date and time the samples were collected, the number of containers each <br /> sample occupies, the sample matrix (soil or water) and the walyses for which the smnples are <br /> being submitted, if any. The chain-of ceustody form is signed by each person who Handles the <br /> samples, including all Kleinfelder employees and the receiving employee of office sample <br /> control or the analytical,laboratory when the samples are delivered. <br /> B-2.8 Decontamination of Equipment <br /> To reduce the potential fol( cross-contar in tion, augers and associated equipment are sty <br /> cleaned prior to drilling each boring.
