3.0. ON-SITE CONTROL <br /> The Site Safety Officer will coordinate site access control and security. Hydrocarbon fuels-Components of fuels are colorless liquids with strong aromatic petroleum <br /> hydrocarbon-like odors. They are flammable and have low solubility in water. Exposure to <br /> these materials in excess of recommended exposure limits can cause mild eye, nose, and <br /> throat irritation and can produce a narcotic effect on the central nervous system. Symptoms <br /> of exposure at these concentrations include headache,nausea,drowsiness,dizziness,and loss <br /> of coordination. Certain components of gasoline (BTEX etc.) are known or suspected <br /> carcinogens. <br /> The additional potential hazards include: Slip-trio-fall hazards, noise, heavy equipment (i.e., <br /> excavator/backhoe), vibration hazards, traffic hazards, etc. <br /> 5.0.
