KLElNFELDER
4.2 QUARTERLY GROUNDWATER SAMPLING
Groundwater samples were collected from te previously noted 13 monitoring wells. The wells
were purged and sampled as described in Appendix A, Section A-4.2. The water purged from the
wells was contained and left on site within the fenced Disco Area.
After collection, the groundwater samples were labeled, logged on a chain-of-custody, and
immediately stored in an iced cooler. The samples were transported under chain-of-custody
control by courier to Sequoia Analytical Laboratories (Sequoia) of Sacramento, California for
chemical analysis. Sequoia is certified by the California Department of Health Services to
perform the requested analyses. The groundwater samples were analyzed for the following:
• Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons-gasoline (TPH-g)by DHS LUFT
• Benzene,.Toluene, Ethylbenzerie, Xylene (BTEX) by EPA Method 8015M/8021I3
• 1,2 DCA by EPA Method 8260B
• EDB by EPA Method 8260B
• TBA by EPA Method 8260B
• Oxygenates, MTBE (MW-14s and MW-15), DIPE, ETBE, TAME by EPA Method 8260B
(MW-DIS-15 only)
The samples were analyzed on a regular laboratory turnaround schedule, requiring approximately
I
7 to 10 working days for receipt of analytical data.
f
4.3 SUPPLEMENTAL GROUNDWATER SAMPLING/FIELD SCREENING
Supplemental groundwater sampling and analysis was conducted during the quarter. Samples
were collected from select wells prior to the start-up of the ozone/sparge system and following
the start-up.
Samples collected from MW-DIS-11s, MW-DIS-11d, MW-DIS-14s, and MW-DIS-14d prior to
the start up were analyzed for. the following; total iron, ferric iron, ferrous iron, and reduction-
oxidation (Redox) potential. The pre-startup samples were analyzed by California Laboratory
Services (CLS) of Sacramento, California. The laboratory results are found in Appendix C.
Following the start-up of the ozone/sparge system, samples were collected from MW-DIS-1 Is,
MW-DIS-lld, MW-DIS-14s, and MW-DIS-14d. On September 9, 2003. samples for MW-DIS-
IIs and MW-DIS-14s were laboratory analyzed for 1,2-DCA, TBA and MTBE, while field
measurements were made of dissolved ozone using field test equipment. On September 30,
2003, the dissolved ozone was measured in wells MW-DIS-i I and MW-DIS-14d, and again on
October 7, 2003, in MW-DIS-1 is and MW-DIS-14s were measured.
The dissolved ozone was measured using a colorimetric system of analysis. The groundwater
sample is generally mixed with an activator solution (usually potassium iodide) which oxidizes
12280NON/ST03R1392 Page 7 of 14
®2003,Kleinfelder,Inc October 13,2003
