i
I I
GG-Grab groundwater samples from soil borings
SB-subsurface soil sample from soil borings
TB-trip blank
Sample location qualifiers will begin with the next sample numeric character following those
used in the Problem Assessment report(PAR) and Final Remediation Plan (FRP) (CH2M
HILL, 1995). For locations where refusal is met during drilling, those locations will be labeled
with the two-character alpha code, followed by the sequential numeric character followed by a
one-letter sequential alpha character (e.g. SB-10A). Only those borings completed to the
planned depth will be without the final sequential alpha character(e.g. SB-10).
4.4.2 Sample Labels
Sample labels are necessary to prevent misidentification of samples. The labels will contain
the following information:
• Sample identification number
• Date and time of collection
• Sample type
• Analyses to be performed
j • Sampling personnel
I
Labels will be affixed to all sample containers at the time of sampling.
4.5 Documentation and Chain-of-Custody
h A required part of any sampling and analytical program is the integrity of the sample from
collection to data reporting. This includes the ability to trace the possession and handling of
samples from the time of collection, through analysis, and final disposition. This
documentation of the sample's history is referred to as "chain of custody." The components of
r the chain of custody(custody seals,a field log book,chain-of-custody record) and the
procedures for their use are described in the following paragraphs.
A sample is considered to be under a person's custody if it is:
In a person's physical possession
• In view of the person after the person has taken possession, or
• Secured by that person so that no one can tamper with the sample
A person who has samples under custody must comply with the procedures described in the
following sections.
4.5.1 Chain-of-Custody Record
To establish the documentation necessary to trace sample possession from the time of
collection,a chain-of-custody record will be filled out and accompany every sample (soil and
water).
The record will contain the following minimum information:
SFO/CABERNETIGROUPs/EBGIDELMONTEIPLANT_33/WORKPLAN CPT.000 9
II
