k4 KLEINFELDER
Ethylbenzene was detected in five groundwater samples ranging from 1.8 ug/l to 5,100 ug/l.
Xylene was detected in five groundwater samples with concentrations ranging from 1.6 ug/l to
26,000 ug/l. The PMCL for ethylbenzene and xylene is 700 ug/l and 1,750 ug/I respectively.
1,2-DCA was detected in seven groundwater samples analyzed with concentrations ranging from
N 0.90 ug/1 to 1,500 ug/1. The PMCL for 1,2-DCA is 5 ug/l. The detected concentrations of 1,2-
DCA exceeded the PMCL for 1,2-DCA in five of the seven groundwater samples with detected
concentrations.
EDB was detected in one groundwater sample collected for laboratory analysis this quarter. The
detected concentration was 1,100 ug/l collected from NP-1-80'. EDB has a PMCL of 0.05 ug/l
i
The twelve groundwater samples were also analyzed for the oxygenates MTBE, DIPE, ETBE,
and TAME. Only MTBE was detected in one groundwater sample (MW-DIS-14s) with a
concentration of 9.9 ug/l. This marks the second consecutive detection of MTBE in MW-DIS-
14s. The oxygenates MTBE, DIPE, ETBE, or TAME were not detected in the remaining eleven
groundwater samples submitted for laboratory analysis. The PMCL for MTBE is 13 ug/1 and the
Secondary Maximum Contaminant Level (SMCL) for MTBE is 5 ug/l. The detected
concentration of MTBE in MW-DIS-14s does not exceed the PMCL, but does exceed the SMCL
for MTBE in water. PMCLs are derived from health based criteria, whereas SMCLs are derived
from consumer considerations such as taste and odor.
All twelve groundwater samples were analyzed for TBA. TBA was not detected in any of the
groundwater samples submitted for laboratory analysis.
Kleinfelder recommends that a copy of this report be submitted to Mr. Mike Infurna of the San
Joaquin County Public Health Services Department Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD)
and Mr. Marty Hartzell of the Central Valley Office of the State of California Regional Water
Quality Control Board (CVRWQCB) by Del Monte Foods for their review and consideration.
This report is subject to the limitations found in Chapter 7 of this report.
l
i
12280.MON 1 ST02R519 Page 2 of 14
©2002,Kleinfelder,Inc September 19,2002
