KLEINFELDER
5 MONITORING RESULTS
The depth to groundwater was measured in each monitoring well included in this event. The
depth to groundwater data was converted'to elevation in reference to mean sea level for the
calculation of groundwater flow direction and gradient.
1 The 12 groundwater samples were submitted under chain-of-custody procedures to Sequoia
Analytical Laboratories of Sacramento, California..Table 2 is a summary of the analytical results
for groundwater. For a complete report of the analytical results please refer to the chain-of-
custody forms and laboratory analytical reports included in Appendix C.
5.1 WATER LEVELS
On February 17, 2004, all 20 monitoring wells and 3 piezometers were sounded for depth to
groundwater. On February 17, 18 and 19, 2004, nine of the 20 monitoring wells and each of the
3 piezometers were sampled (see Section 4). The depth to groundwater ranged from 42.13 feet
below the top of the well casing (MW-DIS-11s) to 53.97 feet below the top of the well casing
(MW-DIS-15).
The groundwater elevations ranged from —33.47 feet msl to —34.50 feet msl at the site. The
groundwater gradient was calculated to be at 0.001 feet/foot, and a general direction of flow
towards the southeast. Plate 3 shows the interpreted groundwater contours. The reported
groundwater flow direction has been consistent with the historical data collected at the site. It
should be noted that local groundwater in the vicinity of SVE-N and SVE-S was shown to be
mounded relative to other nearby monitoring wells; whereas the water level in MW-1 (adjacent
to SVE-N and S) was depressed. The groundwater elevation in the downgradient well, MW-
DIS-I1s, was also elevated above the other nearby monitoring well water elevations. The
localized groundwater depression and mounding appears to be a direct result of the ozone
sparging and/or vapor extraction activities directed in these areas. Please refer to Table 1 for the
recorded groundwater elevations on February 17, 2004 and past monitoring events.
1
1 12280.MON 1 ST04R397 Page 9 of 13
®2004,Kleinfelder,Inc May 11,2004
