Mr. Michael Collins
Page 4
August 19, 1993
SFO31604.P3
• Petroleum hydrocarbon source area is located in the saturated, capillary, and
unsaturated zones.
• Soil is generally homogenous.
• Oxygen availability is relatively low in the source area; dissolved oxygen
measurements in monitoring well MW-1 are significantly lower than in the
Plant 33 monitoring wells that do not contain detectable levels of petroleum
hydrocarbons.
AS/SVE System at Plant 33
The Plant 33 AS/SVE system will consist of the following components:
•
• r tint: ysttem- (i.e. activated oar-on)
• ;to measure dissolved oxygen, vapor pressures, and
water levels (the existing Plant 33 monitoring wells will also be used for this
purpose)
In order to reduce drilling costs, each AS/SVE borehole will contain one AS well and one
SVE well. Figures 2 and 3 show the planned AS/SVE system.
During operation of the AS/SVE system, operation and maintenance (O&M) will be
conducted bi-monthly. System measurements will include:
• System pressure settings
• Vapor treatment effluent
i
• VOC concentrations in extracted vapor
I
• Groundwater elevations
i
• Dissolved oxygen in groundwater
quarm ly.=p
