Figure 7 <br /> shows depressed levels (8.0 mg/L) of sulfate in the zone of significant contamination in <br /> contrast to 25 to 30 mg/L out side the zone. The values of 10.6 mg/L in the deep well MW- <br /> DIS-8D and 10.3 mg/L in MW-DIS-4 do not fit the expected pattern. <br /> The anaerobic fermentation of BTEX converts carbon dioxide into dissolved methane.
