The primary sample and duplicate sample IDs will be
recorded in the field documentation.
8.3.1 Routine Groundwater Samples
Each groundwater sample will be assigned a unique Sample Identification Number using the
following designations:
All samples will begin with an abbreviated site reference—EC2—followed by a hyphen and the
letter W for water samples and then a hyphen, and a two digit boring ID. The two digit boring ID
will be prefixed by"1"for duplicate samples. For example a water sample collected from boring
02 will be designated EC2-W-02.
8.3.2 Groundwater Split-duplicates and Blanks
Duplicate and blank samples will be assigned names based on the sampling location. Duplicate
samples will be assigned with a"1"prefix on the boring number portion of the sample ID. For
example, if sample EC2-W-02 is designated for duplicate sampling, the duplicate sample would
be identified as EC2-W-102. The primary sample and duplicate sample IDs will be recorded in
the field documentation.
Equipment rinse blanks will be designated using the site reference as above followed by a
hyphen and the sample collection date as numerals without separators. An"RB"designation to
indicate it is a rinse blank will follow. Similarly, a"TB"designation will follow the sampling
date to indicate it is a travel blank. For example a rinse blank collected on the first day of
sampling on June 9,2010,will be designated EC2-060910-RB.
8.4 Container, Preservation, and Holding Time Requirements
All sample containers used will be delivered to the field team in a pre-cleaned condition.
Container, preservation, and holding time requirements are summarized in Tables 4, 5,and 6
(Appendix B) for soil, soil gas, and groundwater, respectively.
8.3 Sample Labeling, Packaging and Shipping
Procedures for sampling, labeling, packaging, and shipping used for TBA are presented in the
TBA SAP.
When using CLP Laboratories, the U.S. EPA Region 9 Sample Coordination Center(RSCC)
must be notified daily at 510-412-2389 (R9rscc@epa.gov)regarding what samples were shipped.
This information may be given to RSCC as voice mail. The RSCC must be provided the
following information:
• Your name,
• Your call-back number,
• Sample matrix,
• EPA Case Number,
• Analyses,
002693.1501.01 BR 8-2
EI Co.flw Na.2
