Matt
848 First Street
Escalon, CA 95320
Subject: CA Matt
1303 First Street
Escalon, CA 95320
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) has reviewed Work Plan for
Soil Investigation Beneath Former USTS (Work Plan) dated August 25, 2008, submitted on
your behalf by Ground Zero Analysis, Inc. (Ground Zero) and has the following comments.
In the Work Plan Ground Zero proposes the advancement of five direct push soil borings to
total depths of 25 feet below surface grade to collect soil samples for laboratory analysis.
The soil samples will be collected from areas believed to be beneath the former underground
storage tanks (USTs) and between the former dispenser island and boring B-4, which was
installed in 1996 as part of a different investigation.
The EHD approves the Work Plan with the condition that the soil sample analytical suite
includes the following:
1. Total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline and diesel by EPA Method 8015.
2. Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes by EPA Method 8020 (or 8260).
3. Total lead by EPA Method 7420.
4. Methyl tertiary butyl ether, tertiary butyl alcohol, di-isopropyl ether, ethyl tertiary butyl
ether, tertiary amyl methyl ether, 1,2-dichloroethene and ethylene dibromide by EPA
Method 8260.
Please proceed with submittal of an EHD soil boring permit application and required $89.00
permit fee; an EHD Master File Record Form and $315.00 site mitigation fee for report
review and inspections (staff time billed at $105 per hour), and with scheduling the approved
work. Deadline for implementation of the Work Plan is November 7, 2008; the report of
findings documenting the results of the investigation is due for submittal within 60 days
following completion of the fieldwork.
