The purpose of the <br /> meeting was to discuss the Closure Report submitted by ATC Associates on your behalf, <br /> dated March 15, 2001. This letter will serve as a summary of the meeting. <br /> The request for closure has been denied by PHS/EHD. The lateral extent of the diesel <br /> fuel contamination in groundwater remains undefined. The concentration of total <br /> petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel detected in groundwater samples collected from MW-3 <br /> has been steadily increasing to the current concentration of 1,600 micrograms per liter <br /> (µg/1). The lateral extent of contamination must be delineated before closure can be <br /> granted. <br /> The following points were agreed to at the meeting: <br /> • Five grab groundwater samples will be collected north and northwest of MW- <br /> 3. A monitoring well may be installed north of MW-3. A work plan that <br /> outlines the grab groundwater investigation and monitoring well installation <br /> will be submitted to PHS/EHD within the next 30 days. PHS/EHD will <br /> approve the work plan or ask for modification within one week. <br /> • A minimum of four complete quarters of groundwater sampling will be <br /> completed before closure can be considered. If a monitoring well is not <br /> installed, the four quarters will include the July and October 2000 events. <br /> The third quarter will be represented by an April sampling event and the <br /> fourth quarter by a July sampling event.
