Weber Avenue, 3rd Floor
Stockton, CA,95202
Subject: Workplan for Skimmer Installation, Free Product Removal,. and Skimmer
Maintenance at Smith Canal Pumping Plant, Stockton, California
I
Dear Mr, Wong:
ATC Associates Inc. is presenting this workplan for the installation of a passive skimmer, free
product removal, and skimmer maintenance at the subject site on behalf of the City of Stockton
(Figure 1). This Work is being done at the request of the San Joaquin County PublicHealth
Services Environmental Health Department (PHS/EHD) in correspondence dated January 8,
1998. The purpose of this scope of work is to remediate free product that has been present in
monitoring well MW4 since 1992. The free product thickness has varied from trace amounts to
8.41 feet: All fieldwork will be completed in accordance with our Site Specific Health and Safety
Plan on file with PHSBHD. The following paragraphs contain a detailed description of the scope
of work to be performed.
( SCOPE OF WORK
Free Product Skimmer Installation
999 i
i
ATC personnel will install a free product skimmer into well MW4 (Figure 2). The skimmer will
I be suspended in the well using a Teflon coated steel cable which will be tied down just outside the
well box. The skimmer will separate floating free product from the groundwater and store the
free product until the skimmer can be emptied by ATC personnel. The skimmer will have a
maximum capacity of almost one-half gallon. The manufacturer's specifications for the Durham
Geo Skimmer are contained in Attachment 1.
Because the top.two-feet.ofPVC pipe in well MW4 is bent the skimmer currently will not fit into
the well. The top two feet of the well casing will have to be excavated, PVC pipe removed and
( ) replaced, and re-concreted into place. The well will also have to be resurveyed.
