r :..
f
Waterwor!c
Soil Sampling Protocol
i
proposal will be submitted to the Public Health Division of the t
County health Department with proposed boring/sampling locations.
The exact location and number of borings at each site will be
determined in the field by the Project Geologist.
Prior to arriving at the sample site, the drill rig/augers will
be steam cleaned and sample equipment will be washed with
laboratory grade detergent and rinsed twice with tan w<tis:er and x
once with deionized water. This procedure will be conducted on E
site on all sampling equipment between-each sample interval.
Soil samples will be obtained using a California modified split-
spoon sampler containing three six inch long, two inch diameter
brass tubes. The sampler will be driven 18 inches ahead of the
-. hollow stem auger with a 140 pound drop hammer falling 30 inches. F
The blows to drive the sampler each six inch interval will be
recorded on the boring log. The sampler will be removed from the
boring and opened to reveal the brass tubes. The bottom tuha
will be capped with aluminum foil and plastic end caps, taped and
--. labeled with the following information: data, time, project ID,
Sample ID, name of sampler and type of analysis. This sample
will be immediately placed into a cooler containing dry ice. or
_ "blue ice". The samples will be delivered to a state certified
laboratory under chain of custody protocol with . 48 hours. of
sampling, when possible.
Soil in the uppermost brass tube will be described for texture, s
color, consistency, moisture content, presence of contamination
A and any other distinguishing characteristics. Soil properties
will also be noted in the middle brass tube and from the sampler
shoe. These field observations gill be noted on a log prepared
for each boring/well.
- During sampling, latex gloves will be worn to prevent cross-
contamination with other samples. The disposable gloves will be ;
discarded after collecting samples from each 18-inch sample
drive.
4
is
