Box 388 Stockton, CA 95201-0388 Subject: Site Status Report, First Quarter 1997, Smith Canal Pump Plant, Fontana Street and Smith Canal, Stockton, California, Site Code 1102 Ms. Turkatte: This letter report summarizes groundwater monitoring activities at the above referenced site (Figure 1) during the first quarter of 1997. These activities included monitoring fluid levels in all s ' site wells and collecting groundwater samples from wells MW1, MW2, MW3, MW5 and MW6 for laboratory analysis. FIELD WORK On January 22, 1997, static fluid levels were measured in monitoring wells MW1 through MW6. The water table elevation increased an average of 3.25 feet since October 22, 1996. Table 1 summarizes the water level data collected during the reporting period and provides previous data for comparison. A groundwater gradient map was created for the January 22, 1997 monitoring event (Figure 2) using groundwater elevation data from all the wells monitored. Figure 2 depicts a groundwater gradient of approximately 0.006 ft/ft (32 ft/mile) with a northerly groundwater flow direction. Floating petroleum product was observed in well MW4 on January 22, 1997. Approximately 0.050 liters of free product were recovered from the well. Table 2 summarizes the product thickness measurements and volume of product removed from previous monitoring events. All bailed product has been stored in a DOT approved double containment drum pending appropriate disposal. Groundwater samples were collected on January 22, 1997 from wells MW1, MM2, MW3, MW5 and MW6.
