r.
SNrFN
'•' ENVIRONMENTALTECHNOLOGIESCOAPORATIOH
August 29, 1995
94-369-001-T10
Ms. Linda Turkatte
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
P. O. Box 388
Stockton, CA 95201-0388
Subject: Site Status Report, April through June 1995, Smith Canal Pump Plant, Fontana
Street and Smith Canal, Stockton, California, Site Code 1102
Ms. Turkatte:
This letter report summarizes groundwater monitoring activities at the above referenced site
(Figure 1) during the second quarter of 1995. These activities included monitoring fluid levels in
all site wells and collecting groundwater samples from wells MW3 and MW6 for laboratory
analysis.
FIELD WORK
s r s
On June 1 and June 28, 1995, static fluid levels were measured in monitoring wells MW1 /
through MW6. The water table elevation decreased an average of 1.85 feet since March 24"L//
1995. Table 1 summarizes the water level data collected during the reporting period and provides
previous data for comparison.
A groundwater gradient map was created for the June 1, 1995 monitoring event (Figure 2) using
groundwater elevation data from all the wells monitored. The groundwater elevation in MW4
appears to be anamolous, possibly due to a depression caused by the floating product measured in
the well. Figure 2 depicts a gradient which varies from approximately 0.0029 ft/ft (15 ft/mile) in
the northern portion of the site to approximately 0.013 ft/ft (69 ft/mile) in the southern portion of
the site with a groundwater flow direction toward MW4.
Floating petroleum product was observed in well MW4 during both monitoring events in June /
1995. Approximately 4.3 liters and 1.1 liters of free product were recovered from the well onv/
June 1 and June 28, respectively. Table 2 summarizes the product thickness measurements and
volume of product removed from previous monitoring events. All bailed product has been stored
in a DOT approved double containment drum pending appropriate disposal.
Groundwater samples were collected on June 1, 1995 from wells MW3 and MW6. No
groundwater samples were collected from MW4 due to the presence of free product.
