Working To Restore Nature
One soil boring was advanced near each of wells MW-1, MW-2, and MW-3 to investigate soil
contaminants detected in those areas during RESNA's initial investigation. The groundwater
' monitoring wells and hydropunch samples were positioned to further define the lateral extent of
the floating product near well MW-4 and to investigate potential groundwater contamination in
-_a the upgradient and downgradient directions from the former tank.
r:
All field activities described herein were conducted in accordance with the site specific Health
and Safety Plan and RESNA's Quality Assurance/Quality Control Plan (QA/QC) included in
Appendices II and III, respectively.
4.1 Drilling
Drilling was conducted by Spectrum Exploration, Inc. (C57 ##512268) utilizing a hollow stem
auger drill rig. To prevent cross-contamination, drilling augers were steam-cleaned before
.. drilling each borehole. All rinsate produced during decontamination procedures was stored in
DOT approved drums and remain on-site. All drill cuttings produced were stockpiled on-site,
overlain and covered with 6 mil plastic sheeting.
:._.' Soil borings not converted to groundwater monitoring wells were abandoned by placing a
minimum of two feet of bentonite in the bottom of each hole and hydrating with tap water. The
remaining open hole was filled to the surface with a neat cement grout.
--a
t 4.2 Soil Sampling
Discrete soil samples were collected from the wells and borings at five foot intervals above the
soil/water interface beginning at a depth of five feet. A field geologist was present to
I
continuously log drill cuttings and soil samples utilizing the Unified Soil Classification System.
Descriptions of soil types encountered and sample collection intervals were recorded on the
boring/well logs included in Appendix IV. Cored soil samples were collected using 2-inch
diameter split-spoon samples containing brass tubes. The cored samples and drill cuttings were
characterized for soil type, moisture content and evidence of petroleum contamination. A
REPORTSIPAR1093.FNL 4
j
