FIELD ACTIVITIES
The field investigations performed at the site included soil
sampling, lithologic logging, ground water monitoring well
construction, and well development -and sampling.
A. Drilling and Soil Sampling
Three exploratory borings were drilled to a depth of 40
feet on the subject property_ on March 19, and 20, 1986 . An
Acker AB-II drill rig, equipped
with 8 hollow stem augers,
was. used for the soil borings. The augers were steam-cleaned
between borings to minimize any potential for cross hole
contamination.
Soil samples were extracted at three feet by driving a
2-inch I .D. Modified Porter ,Sam lercontaining 6" brass
P g
1 liners. The bottom tube was covered with aluminum foil and
sealed with plastic caps for laboratory analysis. The other
samples were screened for hydrocarbons with a photoionization
detector (PID) , calibrated with 25 ppm benzene gas.
During the drilling, a Kleinfelder geologist classified
the subsurface soils, collected soil samples and logged the
boreholes.
