FIELD ACTIVITIES <br /> The field investigations performed at the site included soil <br /> sampling, lithologic logging, ground water monitoring well <br /> construction, and well development -and sampling. <br /> A. Drilling and Soil Sampling <br /> Three exploratory borings were drilled to a depth of 40 <br /> feet on the subject property_ on March 19, and 20, 1986 . An <br /> Acker AB-II drill rig, equipped <br /> with 8 hollow stem augers, <br /> was. used for the soil borings. The augers were steam-cleaned <br /> between borings to minimize any potential for cross hole <br /> contamination. <br /> Soil samples were extracted at three feet by driving a <br /> 2-inch I .D. Modified Porter ,Sam lercontaining 6" brass <br /> P g <br /> 1 liners. The bottom tube was covered with aluminum foil and <br /> sealed with plastic caps for laboratory analysis. The other <br /> samples were screened for hydrocarbons with a photoionization <br /> detector (PID) , calibrated with 25 ppm benzene gas. <br /> During the drilling, a Kleinfelder geologist classified <br /> the subsurface soils, collected soil samples and logged the <br /> boreholes.
