KLEINFELDER
3 BACKGROUND
California Nuggets has voluntarily requested that a baseline groundwater assessment be
conducted at the site for future development of WDRs and supporting data for a pending ROWD
being prepared by Nolte and Associates. The following is given as a summary of minimum
requirements usually requested by the RWQCB.
1. A description of the types of soil underlying the planned effluent disposal area
including stratigraphy, soil classification (Uniform Soil Classification System,
USCS, is preferred), estimated permeability, and other factors relevant to vadose
zone fluid mobility.
2. The approximate depth from the existing ground surface to the groundwater table
including (if available) expected seasonal variations.
3. Typical Groundwater Flow gradient.
4. Analytical data for at least three shallow groundwater samples obtained in the
upgradient and down-gradient ends of the planned wastewater disposal area.
Samples shall be collected from the first groundwater encountered, and may be
obtained by use of monitoring wells.
The processes for preparing the com nut product includes softening the corn skins in a lime
solution. Process water is currently softened with sodium. The current wastewater volume
generated is approximately 14,000 gallons per day. Skin solids are separated from the current
waste stream prior to discharge to the ponds or sprayfield. Solid waste is sold off-site for
livestock feed use.
50890.EO1/ST05R358/IDZ:ly Page 3 of 12
0 2005,Kleinfelder,Inc. April 29,2005
