Jerry Lile
February 20, 2004
Page 3
that is excavated to a depth of one foot below the depth of the clean sample. Since the
presence of contaminants may be the result of lateral spreading of sand blast grit it is
possible that elevated levels will be present at a depth of one foot below the depth of
the clean sample. It also may be possible that contaminants were released at the
surface by other means followed by an adjustment in the grade.
RECOMMENDATION
To confirm that stockpiled soil is suitable for reuse, collect samples from the soil
stockpile for laboratory analysis.
5) Page 10, first paragraph: It is indicated that field duplicate samples will be given a
fictitious identity. It is not indicated at what frequency duplicate soil samples will be
collected.
RECOMMENDATION
Collect duplicate soil samples at a frequency of one duplicate sample for every 10
samples collected.
If you have questions or require additional information regarding this matter, feel free to
contact me by telephone at (916) 255-3709 or e-mail at jrohrer@dtsc.ca.gov.
