Ms. Margaret Lagorio Treadweil&Rollo
9 September 1999
Page 4
Area 20
Name/Address: This site is referred to as the former Western Pacific Rail Road site. (Figure 5).
Facility Status: Dirt lot currently vacant.
Characterization/Remediation Status: Thirty shallow soil borings and three monitoring wells
were completed at this site in 1992.
Geophysical Survey: A GS survey was performed to help determine if USTs or buried sumps
remain in selected areas of the site. No geophysical anomalies were encountered.
Proposed Soil Investi ag tion: Soil samples will be collected from six test pits.
Proposed Groundwater Investi ag tion: The two existing monitoring wells will be sampled.
Area 21
Name/Address: This area is referred to as the Crystal Creamery site at 404 West Fremont Street.
(Figure 6).
Facility Status: The eastern half of the site is currently being used as a dairy distribution center,
and is paved and covered with buildings. The western half is vacant and unpaved.
Characterization/Remediation Status: Work performed in 1994 indicated that free-phase
petroleum hydrocarbons were found in monitoring wells at the site, associated with a leaking
UST reportedly removed in 1986. Soil vapor extraction wells are installed as part of a system to
treat soil and groundwater contaminated with fuel hydrocarbons, and a pilot test is planned in the
near future.
Proposed Soil Investi ag tion: Six Geoprobe borings will be advanced, with three soil samples
taken and analyzed per Table 1.
Proposed Groundwater Investigation: The seven onsite groundwater monitoring wells will be
sampled.
REPORTING
Report preparation will begin immediately following the completion of the field work. The
report will present the results of the field investigation, including boring logs and test pit
descriptions, and soil and groundwater sampling results. Figures showing the location of the test
borings and test pits will be prepared, as will figures posting significant findings from the
