404 WEST FREMONT STREET
WKA No 1628 02
' September 2, 1994
Page 4
BTEX contamination in ground water is concentrated to the north and west of the former fuel
tank, based on analytical results of water samples from well MW4 and product observed on the
water surface in well MW1 Trace concentrations of gasoline and BTEX were detected in the
water sample collected from well MW2, no detectable concentrations of gasoline and only trace
toluene concentrations were observed in the sample collected from well MW3 Neither gasoline
nor BTEX were detected in any of the soil samples collected during well installation
' On December 1, 1993, wells MW2, MW3 and MW4 were sampled Well MWl was not
sampled due to free product observed on the water Test results revealed gasoline contamination
' in water samples from wells MW3 and MW4, no detectable concentrations of gasoline were
revealed in the water sample collected from well MW2
Site Vicinity
' The Chase Chevrolet property located to the east of the site at 423 North Madison Street is
reported to have soil and ground water contamination as a result of leaking underground fuel
storage tanks This property covers two city blocks between Fremont Street to the north,
' Lindsay Street to the south, Van Buren Street to the west, and Madison Street to the east
' The soil and ground water contamination is reported to be located beneath two areas of the Chase
Chevrolet property 1) near the northeast corner of Fremont and Madison Street, and 2) near the
' western border along Van Buren Street The contamination along Van Buren Street is a concern
due to the elevated concentrations of gasoline contamination detected in ground water samples
' from the three monitoring wells located there, and the proximity of the contamination to the
Crystal Creamery property One of the three wells is reported by RESNA in their April 16,
1992 Quarterly Report, to have over one and one-half feet of floating hydrocarbons on the water
' The RESNA quarterly report also indicates ground water flow direction beneath the western
portion of the property is to the north with a gradient of 0 003 ft/ft
' WALLACE KUHL
Recyciedpqr SASSOCIATES INC
