Fremont Street
Stockton, CA 95203
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health
Division (PHS/EHD) has reviewed the "Phase II Site Assessment
Report" dated January 23 , 1995, prepared by Apex Envirotech, Inc .
and the; information obtained at the time the underground storage
tanks were removed from the above referenced site .
It appears that a composite soil sample was obtained beneath the
three diesel tanks at the time of their removal . Although the soil
sample results were non detect for this composite sample, the
detection limits were high compared to current standards . At the`
time these tanks were removed PHS/EHD staff noted odor to the soil .
The soil sample collected December 12, 1994 , from probe hole P4 ,
confirmed that soil contamination exists at 10 feet below grade in
this area.
Contamination of the gasoline tank area was confirmed at the time
this tank was removed. The soil in the gasoline tank excavation
was sampled again on March 14 , 1988 . In addition, water that had
entered the excavation was sampled at that time . The result of the
soil sample analyses was non detect, but the detection limits were
high compared to current standards . The water sample results did,
evidence contamination.
The soil samples collected December 12 , 1994, from probe holes P1,
P2, and P3 did not indicate soil contamination in those areas, but
the probe locations were at least 20 feet from the tank area .
Therefore, the extent of soil contamination in the gasoline tank
area is unknown.
The water sample results from probe holes P1, P2, and P3 did
indicate that groundwater has been impacted.
' The water sample results from probe holes P9 and P10 indicated low
levels of groundwater contamination. PHS/EHD is not aware of the
history' of the area where these samples were obtained. Please
provide information on this area and the suspected. .source of
contamination.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
4a&,Lk . area -
 Y
were 10 feet away when they were 20
- 'feet or more away.
