Site Code: 2005
848 W Fremont St.
Stockton CA 95203
In an effort to evaluate the extent and mass balance of the contamination in the soil and in
groundwater at the above-referenced site, five soil borings as proposed in Workplanfrn-
A ddztio7l Subsurface Ince tigytion and Site CYaaraderization dated June 9, 1999 prepared by Apex
Envirotech,Inc. (Apex) were advanced at the site in September 1999. Analytical results of
the sample collected at 20 feet below surface grade (bsg) from soil boring#21 (SB-21) were
0A30 milligrams per kilogram (mg/Kg) methyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBE). Results of the
grab water samples of SB-21, SB-22,SB-22, and the most recent groundwater sample from
monitoring well#3 from October 1999 in micrograms per liter(µg/L) are as follows:
TPH-g Benzene MTBE
SB-20 grabwater (g/L 60 m.50 Q.0
SB-21 grabwater µ /L 60 <050 230
SB-22 rabwater u /L <50 m.50 2.9
MW-3 water tL /L 960 240 48
Esttrmmd Mass of Pdma aanH3rlrararbm Re» um—ig in Crrrxar ti=ter(the report) dated
February 8,2000 prepared by Apex provided a mass balance calculation of the petroleum
hydrocarbons in the aquifer of 0.238 pounds of TPH g 0.060 pounds of Benzene, and 0.149
pounds of MTBE remaining in ground water. A mass balance of contaminants in the soil
was not provided in this report. Previously a mass balance of contaminants in the soil was
calculated to be 3.77 pounds of TPH-g in the Mass Balarxe forRenub ing TPH-g dated April 2,
1999 prepared by Apex.
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD)
has determined a no-further-action letter would not be granted for this site at this time. The
primary Maximum Contaminant Levels (MQs) of MTBE in drinking water established by
the California Department of Health Services is 13 µg/L. MTBE had been consistently
detected in MW-3 but in no other monitoring wells since 1997. The MTBE detected in SB-
21 grab water sample is the highest level of MTBE in groundwater reported at the site. SB-
21 is located approximately40 to 50 feet to the east and slightlynorth of MW-3. The center
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
